In conjunction with the Barrie Community Fridge, Fresh Food Weekly has begun delivering fresh food to residences at the Summitview public housing apartment building located across the street from Georgian College. I would like to give a huge thank you to Vicky Blackwell at Cookstown Greens in Thornton, Ontario who generously donated 100 pounds of root vegetables this past weekend. I would also like to thank Homestead Artisan Bakery & Cafe, as well as Behr Farms, who've also donated whatever they weren't able to sell at the Barrie Farmers Market this past Saturday!
While I was organizing this food into orders on Saturday (at the Barrie Community Fridge), some members of the community had stopped by to drop off their donated food items and toiletries. With their permission, I was able to include them in my food orders and then I personally delivered 50 orders to half of the residences at the Summitview public housing building on Saturday, June 5.
Residences who received this food were so happy and thankful for it! Some of them called me right away to say thank you while others emailed me to say they were delighted to be able to use the food to cook their dinner that night!
I have to admit, I don't think I've ever done anything so gratifying in my life. It really does feel good to be able to help those in our community!
